We have just returned home from a very sunny Cape Town to the cold and wet British Winter.
We wanted to drop you a line to thank you for our short stay in the Manor House at Val d'or it was truly magnificent - thank you so much.
Hope to stay with you again before too long.
Kindest regards.

We stayed at Val d’Or for 3 nights to attend a wedding in Franschhoek. After Cape Town this was the perfect place to relax and meet up with other friends from the UK for our friends son's wedding which took place at a nearby vineyard. 8 friends shared the Manor House. The room was very comfortable with a good bathroom. The pool and gardens were superb and the staff could not do enough for us, they even took our husbands' shirts and ironed them ready for the wedding. The breakfast was excellent and I recommend the pic-nic at Boschendal which was arranged for us by the staff. We also did wine tasting by horseback again recommended by the staff. This was great fun as none of us can ride but it was a gentle walk in beautiful surroundings. We are only sorry we couldn't take advantage of some of the excellent restaurants in the area but will definitely go back another day and stay again at Val d’Or.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay here. Beautiful peaceful environment with fabulous staff who looked after your every thought - we were in the self-catering apartment and they still wanted to help with the Braai etc - very kind.
Attention to detail with everything with an extremely well equipped kitchen. Crisp white sheets and wonderful views, who could ask for more?
Thank you and we hope to stay again sometime very soon & have already recommended you to others. |

The drive up to the imposing gates from the road was through the vines with a view of the mountains behind. We were greeted by Suzette in the reception who was very charming and helpful. Our room was adjoining the main house. It was very spacious and nicely furnished. We had a fine view from our room across our terrace to the well kept gardens and swimming pool.
Breakfast was in the main house and was pleasantly served and good. All the staff was excellent. We both would thoroughly recommend a stay at this charming guest house.

The hotel is reminiscent of an earlier gracious era. We enjoyed the amazing gardens, beautiful scenery and our elegant bedrooms. The service was very good and the croissants at breakfast even better than in Paris! Your hospitality was exceptional.

Service with serenity, December 06 2008

My wife and I had the pleasure to enjoy 14 days at Val d'Or Estate, and we were looked after and pampered from the moment we arrived. Little touches such as the complimentary coffee and croissants whilst our room was being prepared (we were not scheduled to enter before 14h00 - but British Airways don't delay their arrival at CT International!) were constant throughout our stay. Complimentary sherry or port was always available to precede or follow yet another gourmet dinner in the beautiful Valley.
Suzette and her team were always smiling, and there was never any request or booking that was not handled efficiently and effectively. Her initial suggestions for various restaurants and excursions (the Picnic at Boschendal was sublime - and a "must" for all visitors) only got better as the days passed by.
Val d'Or combines efficiency with discrete tranquillity, and at only 5 minutes by car from the centre of Franschhoek, could not have been better situated. The small but well-attended pool is situated in the middle of a magnificent garden, with the dramatic backdrop of the Drakenstein towering over the Valley.
I have had the opportunity to stay at some of the very best (known) hotels in the world, but none has given either more pleasure or more welcome relief from the stress of today than Val d'Or. We shall be returning, and can recommend it to anyone looking for style, calm and top-service.

Situated a short drive outside Franschhoek the views from the grounds of the estate are magnificent. We stayed in the Manor house which was very clean, spacious and air conditioned. The garden area contained a swimming pool and sun bathing area well landscaped and maintained. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We would definitely stay here again... |

I would highly recommend this establishment. The entire stay was made stressless and enjoyable - the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We were recommended a restaurant on a local wine estate which to date was the highlight of our trip. Great rooms and great location. |

A beautiful guesthouse, set among lovely gardens and vineyards, with cooling breezes down from the mountain. We had two superior rooms in a seperate house which we had all to ourselves. It was Suzette and her staff that make this place so special. We felt like guests in her home, who they couldn't do enough for without being intrusive. |

We only have one regret about our one night stay at Val d'Or. We wish we could have stayed longer!
Nestled in the valley, or 'bluf', and surrounded by mountains, the setting truly is idyllic!
A long driveway lead us off the road that had taken us from Stellenbosch to a few kilometres or so outside of Franschoek, and we arrived at the Reception Building via the well maintained and spacious grounds of the Val d'Or Estate where we were cordially welcomed by Suzette.
We were shown to our two double bedrooms (we were holidaying with friends) in the nearby Manor House. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and we had use of a kitchen and very fine lounge.
Franschoek is a very popular tourist spot and Suzette was extremely concerned that we had not booked a Dinner reservation anywhere in or around town. Her concerns were well founded as she immediately suffered a number of rejections when kindly phoning around for us, until her plea to the 4th restaurant obtained us a reservation at one of doubtless many fine restaurants in the area. If the meal we experienced that night is anything to go by Franschoek is definitely for lovers of good food and wine!
There is a small pool in the grounds of Val d'Or, more for refreshment and relaxation than swimming but welcomed nevertheless.
Breakfast offered a good choice of 'continental' style and cooked food which can be taken inside or on the terrace.
There cannot be many finer settings anywhere than here. Val d'Or is a 'not to be missed' stop ion your tour of the Winelands of South Africa. Have your camera at the ready.
Oh, and be sure not miss the superb Boschendal Wine Farm and Estate on your way from Stellenbosch as this is also a 'must' for a visit!

First Visit to Franschoek , November 19 2006

My very fist time in South Africa and "What an experience" having initially stayed close to Cape Town it was time to taste some wines.
Two nights at the Val d' Or Estate in Franschoek proved to be an inspired choice. Booked on line via "RoomsForAfrica" all aspects of the stay were wonderful.
Our hosts specially were very friendly and went that extra mile to make our stay special. This included making dinner reservations for the evening of our arrival as they knew local restaurants were very full and were not sure if we had booked ahead. They also made special arrangements for my wife's birthday celebrations the following evening.
The room, gardens and the whole estate were to a very high standard and each morning breakfast was well presented and very tasty.
The proximity to the centre of Franschoek was easy, as was the accessibility to the wineries of our choice.
Would we go back or recommend the estate to others..?
Yes, without hesitation. |
